Teacher Training
(Courses in NYC - Summer 2012)
The AGS Dyslexia Center teaches all five levels of Academy instruction and prepares teachers to apply to the Academy for membership at all levels. All trainees are encouraged to continue through Certified level to ensure mastery is attained and supervision is not necessary.
FOR PARENTS, ADMINISTRATORS, PSYCHOLOGISTS AND OTHER INTERESTED PARTIES:
Subscriber Course:
A 10-hour course that gives one an overview of what is to be learned in depth at the Associate/Certified levels. Completion of class enables person to subscribe to Academy, receiving emails, newsletters and other information.
FOR CLASSROOM EDUCATOR CERTIFICATION:
Classroom Educator Certification Course:
This course includes 30 hours of coursework and 50 hours of supervised practicum. Practicum includes 5 formal observations by the Certified trainer.
FOR CERTIFICATION AS A PRIVATE TUTOR:
Associate Level Course:
This class includes 60 hours of coursework and 100 hours of supervised practicum, stretching over a minimum of 8 months. Coursework and practicum occur simultaneously. Practicum includes a minimum of 10 formal observations by the Fellow trainer.
After passing this level, supervision is still required by the Academy and Certified Level Course is highly recommended.
Certified Level Course:
This class includes 90 hours of coursework and 200 hours of supervised practicum, stretching over a minimum of 2 years. Coursework and practicum occur simultaneously. Practicum includes a minimum of 10 formal observations by the Fellow trainer.
Associate Level Membership is required in order to study at the Certified Level. After passing this level, the trainee meets the Academy requirements to tutor without supervision.
FOR CERTIFIED MEMBERS WHO WOULD LIKE TO TRAIN OTHERS:
Fellow Level Course:
This course is designed to prepare the trainee to teach the Orton-Gillingham Academy courses and become a leader in the field. It is limited to 2 trainees at a time. Academy Certified Level Membership is required in order to study at the Fellow Level.
