Reading and Writing:
Research shows that the Orton-Gillingham approach is the most effective way to teach reading, writing and spelling skills. Since Orton-Gillingham is an approach, not a program, all lessons are individualized to meet the needs of the student at the time of the lesson. A lesson is taught and the following lesson is written based on the immediate evaluation from the previous lesson. All progress is documented and available to parents at all times. The Orton-Gillingham approach is structured, sequential, multi-sensory and based on phonics and the rules of the English language. As the student learns the language according to the rules, reading and writing are no longer a puzzle. As the student progresses, one receives direct instruction in note taking, essay writing and organizing material for research reports.
Mathematics:
When teaching mathematics, DCOG uses the same research-based. organized, systematic approach geared toward the dyslexic. Again, all lessons are individualized to meet the needs of the student.

Organization and Study Skills:
All lessons include instruction on how to organize information and effectively study for school tests.
Attention Skills:
DCOG works with student to learn how to naturally minimize distraction when studying.
